Behind the scenes thousands of organisations, from small businesses to international corporations are enjoying success in sustainable activities. Some at the cutting edge in science and technology, many providing valuable services to their communities where they are acknowledged as leaders in their field.

Increasing the supply of organic certified tree and hedging plants
One major step forward in the last few years has been the adoption by farmers of agroecology where farms integrate woodland into arable crop areas. The Soil Association is conducting an Agroforestry in Action Project where agroforestry combines trees with crops or livestock. Learn more here.
In a second project on the same theme the Soil Association say: "To put the UK on the path to Net Zero by 2050, the Climate Change Committee recommends that the UK needs to plant around 30,000 hectares (90 to 120 million trees) of broad leaf and conifer woodland each year. The Soil Association’s own vision for agroecology and regenerative forestry is for the area of farm woodland to double by 2050 and for 50% of all farms to incorporate some form of agroforestry system". Learn more here.
If you are keen to protect our planet, by joining the Soil Association you will be making a real contribution.
Both projects are an indication of just how busy, how involved the Soil Association are in their work with farmers and the farming community. And it has to be so if the UK is to maintain its place as one of the leaders in methods that preserve land, soil and reduce the amount of chemical fertilizers.
The projects key easily into the Circular Economy. In the model below, developed by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, we can see how farming and collection fits into the Renewables Flow. If farmers were to use agrochemicals their input would not fit the circular economy model, in fact we can see how agrochemicals have no place on the circular economy. Note how the diagram includes renewable energy - which if it is derived from fossil fuels equally has no place in the circular economy.
